Why Choose a Solar Power System?

Solar technology has advanced significantly over the past decade, and today the benefits of going to solar panels to supplement or replace grid power are clearer than ever. With a range of options for residential, commercial and agricultural applications, Suncatcher Solar can help you select the option that works best for you. Whether you need an off grid solution, or want to take advantage of net metering with a grid-tied system, it's simpler than ever to become a solar power generator.

Grid-Tied Solar

A grid-tied system is a solar power system that is connected to the local energy grid (ex. SaskPower).  It’s a smart and low maintenance way to generate your own solar electricity and save money on your electrical utility bills. SaskPower offers a net metering program which saves you money on the solar power you use and gives you credit for extra electricity you produce that feeds back to the utility.

With a net metering program, solar power systems are designed to reduce your power bills by producing close to the same amount of electricity as you use. It offers many benefits such as maintenance free operation, credit for extra power you produce, and banking credits so you have “seasonal storage” for your solar energy.

Get started! You can find out how much electricity you use by looking at your power bills, or you can send your bills to us and we'll let you know!

The number of solar panels you will need depends on how much electricity you use and the amount of sunshine you get per day on your property. For example, a 5 kW solar power system will produce an average of about 700 kWh per month in central Saskatchewan, Canada.

Ground Mount Systems

Ground mounts are ideal for farms, acreages and other rural areas with plenty of open space.  With the option to choose the best location, orientation and tilt angle solar prodution can be maximized for your site.

With ground mounted systems, winter cold and snow can be a plus!

Solar panels are more efficient and productive in the cold.  Sunlight reflected onto the panels from the snow on the ground also increases their production. Better ventilation in the summer and easier snow clearing in the winter help to provide a steadier power production from season to season.

We see those results in the online monitoring of our systems. Ground mounted systems will average about 15% more production annually than a south facing roof mounted system on a standard roof slope.

Our ground mount system is manufactured and designed in Canada and made for Canadian conditions. Sturdy galvanized steel allows for cost effective manufacturing and design. The increased strength of steel also allows us to span greater distances, saving cost by reducing the number of ground anchors needed per panel.

Three meter (10 foot) screw piles are integrated with the system and are anchored below the frost line to avoid frost jacking and twisting over the years. A variety of screw piles sizes and designs allow us to install in multiple soil conditions. Broad tolerances offer versatility in a variety of conditions and keep installation time down to a minimum.  We install our own screw piles and do our own trenching in-house, so there is no waiting on subtrades.
